A Birth Announcement for Lola and Esko!
Ms. Lola* Stevens and Mr. Esko** Denby would like to announce that they are the proud parents of a litter of 8 Barbet
puppies on 19 November at 10:18 EST. 3 brown males and 5 black females, some with white markings, were born in Boston. (Pedigree
names as Luna* and Up to Date**.)
Happy New Year! Report for 1 January 2005:
Six weeks old and raring to go...the pups are weaned now, weigh several pounds and are getting fed 3 times a day. They
play "outside the box" now, and explore, run, jump, bug their mother and then sleep, sleep, sleep. It is above
50 degrees here today and sunny, so we are going to take them out to a foray into the yard or maybe the small beach.
Report from 17 December:
I can't believe we've got full speed puppies now--rambunctious, noisy, playful, wiggly--a full puppy condo. The pups
have had their first food this week and love it. Lots of short periods of high activity, then back to a big sleep in the
puppy pile. Each one is equally full of mischief--grabbing each others tails and ears, bapping each other with paws, pulling
on the blanket and shaking their heads. They each weigh over 2 lbs. now, just beginning to have little teeth.
Report from 05 December:
We've got more than doubled birth weights on most of these pups, greater mobility and control and best of all...open eyes!
Report on 28 November:
The pups are happy, growing, and nursing actively with Mama. Their eyes are still closed, but they know how to find Mama
and all the brothers and sisters sleep in a big puppy pile.
About the Barbet:
The Barbet is a rare French breed of sporting dog, originally used for hunting water game birds. They are even-tempered
dogs, and make a wonderful companions. Intelligent, headstrong and very active, the Barbet has a coat that is thick, curly
and wooly, and takes maintenance. The Barbet enjoys companionship and is a very active dog, so if you enjoy spending a lot
of time with your dog, have the time and energy to let the Barbet get a good workout almost everyday, can make a commitment
to having your dog trained, and make a trip to the groomer for a clipping job, then the Barbet may be the best dog you have
ever had and the perfect canine addition to your family. The puppies will be registered with the American Rare Breed Association.
